It's September which means it's time for... the Oscars? Wait, no, that can't be right. The Oscars aren't for another six months. Ohhh, it's time for the Toronto International Film Festival, which is a precursor to the Oscars. That explains all the "Early Oscar Prediction" features every movie site has been pumping out (ahem) over the last week.
Well, premature awards buzz naysayers be damned: TIFF -- along with the Telluride and Venice film festivals, which just wrapped up -- is a good place to start gaining momentum for the upcoming awards season. Just look at last year's Toronto lineup for proof, which included critical hits "Silver Linings Playbook," "The Place Beyond the Pines," as well as eventual Best Picture winner "Argo."
So, does this year's slate feature a future Oscar winner? Probably. But it's next to impossible to know until we actually get there and see it for ourselves. (Also impossible because Oscar winners won't be announced until March 2, 2014.) Since Moviefone will be attending this year's TIFF, we've created a short, simple slideshow of the 13 things we hope to see when we land in Toronto this week.
